editor’ s note
ello and welcome to
H the latest edition of Intelligent CISO.
This month’ s cover story, which can be found on page 15, features Ádám Kováts, CISO at Bucher Municipal. He tells us how Zero Trust is helping the company reduce its attack surface, prevent lateral threat movement and gain greater visibility across its global infrastructure.
By moving away from traditional network architectures, Bucher Municipal has also improved connectivity and given users faster access to Internet destinations. Kováts explains how more granular access controls, device posture capabilities and segmentation are strengthening protection across the organisation.
Looking ahead, the company plans to expand Zero Trust Branch, Airgap and user experience monitoring as it continues to develop its security strategy. Kováts also discusses the rapidly growing challenge of governing AI agents and why visibility into AI usage, including Shadow AI, will be critical to maintaining effective security controls.
Elsewhere on page 24, we hear how Cardiff University has strengthened its cybersecurity infrastructure by consolidating four endpoint security products into an integrated Palo Alto Networks platform supported by Unit 42 Managed Detection and Response services.
Facing an attempted cyberattack approximately every 10 seconds, the university has adopted a minimum effective toolset approach to increase automation, improve threat visibility and accelerate detection and response.
The platform resolved more than 99.99 % of approximately 468,000 security cases over two months, while enabling three security team members to move from dayto-day alert management to more strategic projects. Improved executive reporting is also giving the university’ s leadership greater visibility of cyber-risk and helping reinforce the importance of cybersecurity across the organisation.
Lee Evans, Assistant Director of IT Infrastructure at Cardiff University, says the project has helped transform the cyberoperations team from a largely reactive function into a more proactive operation focused on cyber-resilience and secure by design Digital Transformation.
