editor’ s note

ello and welcome to

H the latest edition of Intelligent CISO.

This month’ s cover story, which can be found on page 15, features Simon Henry, Head of Cloud, Networks and Infrastructure at Sheffield Hallam University. He tells us how the university is strengthening data resilience and cyber-resilience across its hybrid IT environment as part of its wider cloud-first Digital Transformation strategy.
Working with technology partner MTI, Sheffield Hallam has deployed Veeam to modernise backup and recovery capabilities, improve visibility and provide consistent protection across research applications, campus systems and cloud services. The implementation has delivered a 99.9 % data recovery success rate, significantly faster backups and stronger protection through immutable backups and role-based access controls.
Henry explains how greater automation and improved recovery confidence are reducing operational workloads while allowing IT teams to focus on supporting students, staff and researchers. Looking ahead, the university is exploring further cloud protection and data portability, with Henry emphasising why strong data resilience is essential to enabling innovation and maintaining critical digital services.
Elsewhere on page 24, we hear how as cyberthreats become increasingly sophisticated, CISOs must look beyond prevention and detection to ensure their organisations can recover quickly and maintain essential operations following an attack.
James Blake, VP Global Cyber Resiliency Strategy and Consulting Services at Cohesity, explains why clearly defined decision-making authority, pre-approved automated responses and board accountability are essential to managing incidents at machine speed.
Santiago Pontiroli, Lead TRU Researcher at Acronis, highlights the importance of maintaining Business Continuity during prolonged disruption and measuring recovery against operational outcomes rather than simply restoring IT systems.
Patrick Smith, CTO EMEA at Everpure, emphasises the need for secure data foundations, immutable backups, integrated threat detection and isolated recovery environments to support rapid, reliable restoration. Together, the experts explain why effective cyber-resilience depends on preparation, regular testing and aligning recovery capabilities with business priorities before an incident occurs.
