Company number 8096230 5 Burnside Court Leominster Enterprise Park Herefordshire HR6 0LX | Issue 23 H ello and welcome to the latest edition of Intelligent CISO where we include the latest news and developments within the cyber industry. On this month’s cover, we have the Group CISO and COO, Trust, Data and Automation, Operations of Standard Chartered Bank, Yuval Illuz. As one of the largest financial institutions in the world, it must function with complete protection of its IT infrastructure. Illuz informs Intelligent CISO about what it means to operate with a secure approach, how Europe is best placed to deal with cyberthreats and about some of the security implications of being such a long-established enterprise. Turning our attention to upcoming cybersecurity developments, we look at what Proofpoint has to say on the subject in our ‘Cybertrends’ feature. Emile Abou Saleh, Regional Director, Middle East and Africa at Proofpoint, tells us that downloaders and botnets abound, while supply chains and account compromises will drive phishing. It is always interesting to note some of the latest threats that have been occurring within the industry and we take a closer look at these in our ‘Threat Updates’ feature. This month, we have a roundup of events that have taken place within Europe and on a more global scale. Helping companies and organisations to mitigate against such threats is Morey Haber, CTO and CISO, BeyondTrust, who suggests a single security recommendation to solve an age-old problem in password security. You can read more on this subject of password protection on page 36. Minimising threats is something every security leader aims to achieve. We hear about this in more detail as part of our feature on telecommunications, as we see how the industry is under attack due to the amount of sensitive data in its possession. David Higgins, EMEA Technical Director at CyberArk, suggests how telcos can minimise the threat of cybercriminals. Our ‘Go Phish’ this month comes from Joe Brown, CSO at Boomi, who discusses the journey that landed him in his role, and how he likes to relax and unwind outside the office. I hope you enjoy the read. If you’d like to contribute to any future issues, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at alix@lynchpinmedia.co.uk Alix Pressley Editor 5
