The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner
(OAIC) and the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office
(ICO) have opened a joint investigation into the personal
information handling practices of Clearview AI, focusing
on the company’s use of ‘scraped’ data and biometrics
of individuals. Tim Mackey, Principal Security Strategist
at the Synopsys CyRC, said: “Starting with the revelation
of a data breach at Clearview AI, jurisdictions around the
world have put in place moratoriums on the use of facial
recognition technologies by law enforcement.”

KnowBe4 has released the results of its
Q2 2020 top-clicked phishing report.
The results found that phishing email
attacks related to COVID-19 remained
frequent in Q2 2020. Covering the second
quarter, simulated phishing tests with a
message related to the Coronavirus were
the most popular, with a total of 56%.
Boris Cipot, Senior Security Engineer at
Synopsys, said: “As one can see from the
subject titles, phishing emails are really
just feeding on people’s current state of
mind. At present, there will likely be some
reference to the Coronavirus pandemic.”
