US bookseller , Barnes & Noble , has been victim to a cyberattack impacting Nook services . The Nook service is an ebook reader and storage platform and customers complained across social media of outages . The company said there was no compromise of customer payment details which are encrypted and tokenised . Paul Bischoff , Privacy Advocate at Comparitech . com , said : “ Barnes and Noble customers should be on the lookout for phishing messages to their phones and email accounts from scammers posing as B & N or a related company .”

Montreal ’ s STM public transport system is the latest victim of a ransomware attack that has affected its services and online systems . Tim Helming at DomainTools , said : “ Unfortunately for Montreal ’ s STM public transport system , RansomExx ransomware actors are among the threat groups that have upgraded their attacks to both encrypt and steal victims ’ data . This evolution of ransomware attacks is known as ‘ doubleextortion ’ because criminals are effectively able to ask for a double payment .”
