T cyberthreats to the North American region are numerous and the list seems to be growing exponentially . Certainly , the COVID-19 pandemic and the work from home ( WFH ) economy has only served to exacerbate existing tensions .

However , the good news is that in some areas , organisations seem to really be starting to get on top of the situation , as a recent report from Databarracks implies . The bad news is that when it comes to the unique challenges of unstructured data – whether onpremises or in the cloud – Business Continuity planning and protection is still lagging dangerously far behind .
And unfortunately , it appears that hackers now view NAS ( network-attached storage ) as the new ‘ honey pot ’.
No IT professional wishes to think about the unthinkable – a situation where your NAS or object storage has been locked by hackers , on your watch ! What now ? You have backups of course , but where do you restore those backups to if your entire system is down and you can ’ t get identical hardware onsite in short order ?
And , how long will it take to restore that increasing amount of unstructured data and get access to just the essential files needed to keep your business running ( and that is assuming your unstructured data was in fact fully backed up )?
Most IT professionals would then find themselves wishing that they had spent more time thinking about what their most important and essential data was and managing it differently . And this remains a huge problem – you could perhaps even call it a ‘ threat ’ in North America and around the world right now . u
