The Dutch Data Protection Authority ( DPA ) has imposed a € 475,000 fine on Booking . com because the company took too long to report a data breach to the DPA . When the breach occurred , criminals obtained the personal data of over 4,000 customers . They also obtained the credit card information of almost 300 people . In a telephone scam targeting 40 hotels in the United Arab Emirates in December 2018 , the criminals persuaded hotel staff to reveal the login details for their accounts in a Booking . com system .

On April 14 , the University of Hertfordshire experienced a cyberattack which impacted all systems . The attack on the university ’ s systems disabled its Wi-Fi network , student record portal and email system . All online teaching was cancelled the day after the attack ; however , students were reassured that they would not be at a disadvantage as a result of the event .
A statement on the university ’ s website said : ‘ There is currently no evidence to suggest that any data has been taken and we are continuing work to resolve the situation ’.
