threat updates UK The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) published advice on how to protect devices from malware after reports that smishing – a technique similar to phishing but using an SMS message rather than an email – was on the rise. On its website, the NCSC said the SMS message, which can be disguised to appear from an official source, will have a link which can download malware or redirect the victim to a malicious website to steal credentials or other personal data. EUROPE Vision Direct, one of Europe’s largest online contact lenses suppliers, reported a data breach. In a statement on its website, the company said that between 12.11am GMT on November 3 and 12.52pm GMT on November 8, the personal and financial details of some of its customers ordering or updating their information on visionDirect.co.uk was compromised. The data was compromised when entering data on the website and not from the Vision Direct database, the company said, with the breach having been resolved and its website now working normally. www.intelligentciso.com | Issue 08 25
