issue 85 editor’ s note
ello and welcome to
H the latest edition of Intelligent CISO.
For this month’ s cover story, which can be found on page 51, we are delighted to feature Dave Gerry, CEO of Bugcrowd.
Along with Ethical Hacker Justin Gardner( AKA Rhynorater) from the Bugcrowd platform, he offers an executive perspective on how CISOs can shift their mindset to adopt crowdsourced security as a core defence in today’ s fast-paced, AI-driven threat landscape.
“ The best way to find a security threat is to have somebody ultimately come in and manually look for one,” said Gerry.“ And that’ s really what separates our platform from a traditional vuln management platform, and there’ s plenty of those on the market and they play an important role, but we believe that we’ re fundamentally different in the results and outcomes we help drive for our customers.
He added:“ We’ ve had this misconception as a society that hackers are bad, and I think what we’ ve helped to do is shine a light to say these are people that are ultimately going to help protect you that are an extension of your team.”
In this month’ s Editors Question, we ask three industry experts what the most common psychological tactics are used in social engineering attacks, and how can organisations train employees to recognise and resist them.
We hear from Walid Issa, Senior Manager, Solutions Engineering – Middle East and Africa, NetApp; Adriyan Pavlykevych, SoftServe’ s CISO; and Kalle Bjorn, Senior Director, Systems Engineering – Middle East, Fortinet.

This month’ s Go Phish features Darron Antill, CEO, Device Authority, who tells us about his management philosophy.
“ I believe in inclusive, shared and divested responsibility. This is a team approach with a leadership group. I aim to get the most from people and have them doing what they are good at. I have a personal bias towards action and getting things done,” he says.
“ We all have a primary job, but in any start-up or fast-growing business, people need broad shoulders. An organisation’ s stars evolve from increased responsibility and leadership of key initiatives, enabling them to develop their job and grow a role.”
