issue 86 editor’ s note
ello and welcome to
H the latest edition of Intelligent CISO.
For this month’ s cover story, which can be found on page 51, we are delighted to feature Haider Pasha, Palo Alto Networks’ Chief Security Officer for EMEA and LATAM.
Generative AI has revolutionised cybersecurity – on both sides of the battlefield. While tools like WormGPT and FraudGPT enable cybercriminals to launch sophisticated, scalable attacks with minimal cost or skill, defenders must rethink their strategy. Pasha warns:“ This is no longer a tools issue – it’ s a mindset issue.”
Pasha argues that defenders must move away from fragmented toolsets and embrace unified, AI-powered platforms.“ Cybersecurity can’ t be managed with 80 siloed tools,” he said, stressing the need for automation and real-time, autonomous decision-making. He also raises concerns about emerging threats such as adversarial AI, Shadow AI and agentic AI, where models can act on users’ behalf – sometimes dangerously.
Pasha remains hopeful:“ We’ re in an arms race, yes. But it’ s one we can win – if we act strategically.” His message to CISOs: build AI literacy, establish clear policies and embed AI as a core layer of security.
In this month’ s Editors Question, we ask three industry experts: What are the most common psychological tactics used in social engineering attacks, and how can organisations train employees to recognise and resist them?
We hear from David Morimanno, Director of Identity and Access Management Technologies, Xalient; Lorri Janssen-Anessi, Director External Cyber Assessments at BlueVoyant; and Brandon Leiker, Principal Solutions Architect at 11:11 Systems.

This month’ s Go Phish features Jill Knesek, CISO at BlackLine.
When asked about her management philosophy, she said:“ I prioritise honesty and transparency. From the outset, I have been very clear about the types of metrics I focus on and the standards I hold. This transparency extends to our successes, as well as our challenges and I believe in consistently communicating our wins and areas where we need improvement.
“ This approach not only builds trust but also fosters a culture of continuous improvement. Being brutally honest and transparent helps in setting realistic expectations and maintaining credibility with the team and stakeholders.”
