CrowdStrike survey finds 76 % of organisations struggle to match the speed of AI-powered attacks
A ccording to the 2025 State of Ransomware Survey from CrowdStrike, 76 % of global organisations struggle to match the speed and sophistication of AI-powered attacks.
“ From malware development to social engineering, adversaries are weaponising AI to accelerate every stage of attacks, collapsing the defender’ s window of response,” said Elia Zaitsev, CTO at CrowdStrike.
With 89 % viewing AI-powered protection as essential to closing the gap, the findings underline that the future of stopping breaches will be decided by who holds the AI advantage – adversaries or defenders.
“ The 2025 State of Ransomware Survey reinforces that legacy defences can’ t match the speed or sophistication of AI-driven attacks. Time is the currency of modern cyberdefence – and in today’ s AI-driven threat landscape, every second counts.”
Key findings from the 2025 State of Ransomware Report include:
• Legacy defences fall behind: 48 % of organisations cite AIautomated attack chains as today’ s greatest ransomware threat, while 85 % report traditional detection is becoming obsolete against AI-enhanced attacks.
• Speed defines the security outcome: Nearly half of organisations fear they can’ t detect or respond as fast as AI-driven attacks can execute, with fewer than a quarter recovering within 24 hours and almost 25 % suffering significant disruption or data loss.
• Social engineering evolves with AI: Phishing remains a leading attack vector, with 87 % saying AI makes lures more convincing and deepfakes emerging as a major driver of future ransomware attacks.
ExtraHop report finds ransomware payouts hit record highs as attackers adapt
xtraHop, a leader in modern Network Detection and Response
E
( NDR), has released the 2025 ExtraHop Global Threat Landscape Report, offering a comprehensive analysis of the evolving cybersecurity landscape.
The report examines the expanding attack surface and the tactics threat actors are using to exploit organisations and execute lucrative attacks. exploiting new entry points to bypass traditional defences and remain hidden inside a network until the time is right to strike,” said Raja Mukerji, Co-founder and Chief Scientist, ExtraHop.
“ The reality is, threats will always find a way in, and organisations must be able to detect threats as they move laterally between systems to escalate privileges and exfiltrate data. Enterprises that lack the ability to not only see, but also contextualise, every bit of network traffic will continue being targeted and plagued by costly downtime and ransom payments.”
According to the findings, threat actors are shifting away from broad, indiscriminate campaigns towards more targeted approaches that yield greater impact. As IT environments become more complex and attack surfaces grow, adversaries are capitalising on blind spots, spending more time inside networks to inflict greater damage and secure higher payouts.
“ This research validates what we’ ve been seeing firsthand: motivated attackers are
