Infoblox Threat Intel, in collaboration with Vietnamese nonprofit Chong Lua Dao, has uncovered a large-scale mobile banking fraud operation linked to Cambodian scam compounds. The research identifies an Android banking trojan distributed via a malware-as-aservice platform that registers around 35 spoofed domains monthly, targeting users in at least 21 countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, Spain and Türkiye.
Once installed through fake banking or government apps, the malware grants attackers full device control, enabling them to capture biometric data, intercept SMS passcodes and access banking apps to transfer funds. The findings confirm that organised scam compounds are running highly sophisticated, industrialised fraud operations.
The report warns that unless organisations strengthen mobile security beyond basic biometrics and SMS authentication, co-ordinated crossborder financial attacks will continue to escalate, increasing regulatory and operational risks.
