S onicWall has released exclusive threat data revealing a hyper-targeted surge in cyber-attacks against the UK healthcare sector.
Intrusion Prevention System( IPS) data recorded from January to May 2026 indicates a 10x increase in targeting volume by hackers, thrusting medical institutions and NHS-adjacent networks directly into the crosshairs of global cyber adversaries.
According to SonicWall’ s Threat Research team, the UK healthcare sector recorded 264,000 individual IPS events in the first five months of 2026 alone, up from a full-year total of just 27,000 in 2025. This traffic increase represents a per-device attack intensity of approximately 11,000 events per sensor, establishing healthcare as the nation’ s most targeted industry.

• Forty-one percent Log4j dominance: 107,708 hits exploit a multiyear-old flaw in unpatched clinical Java middleware.

The data indicates that this wave of exploitation aligns with a global spike in critical infrastructure / OT targeting.“ Our data indicated ransomware volumes dropped a sharp 87 % in 2025 across UK businesses as‘ Big Game Hunters’ traded volume for precision, going after fewer targets with bigger payloads. A in Singapore depicts a concerning picture of fraud in the country.
Nine in 10( 91 %) say fraud attempts are increasing, while 75 % report rising fraud losses, exceeding both the regional average( 67 %) and the global one( 60 %).
“ Singapore is one of just three of the 12 countries we surveyed where a majority of respondents rank concern over the financial risk of fraud and scams as greater than their concern about the reputational
impact posed by fraud and scams,” said Thomas Peacock, BioCatch Director of Global Fraud Intelligence.
“ This is especially pronounced among those respondents working in fraud roles, more than three-quarters of whom identify financial losses as their primary concern.”
The survey was commissioned by BioCatch, which prevents fraud and financial crime by recognising patterns in human behaviour. More than half of respondents named social engineering scams as one of the most common attacks in Singapore.
“ The industry’ s next challenge is building and deploying defences that can distinguish between a genuine customer acting independently and one being manipulated by a criminal,” said Subhashish Bose, BioCatch Global Advisory Director.“ That is where behavioural, device and network intelligence come into play, persistently evaluating a user’ s intent throughout every millisecond of every digital banking transaction.”
Other findings include conservative reimbursement practices, rising adoption of behavioural biometrics and mixed readiness for FAST and PayNow requirements.
